With more than 350 facilities shutting last year, social media sites accounts such as Proper Boozers and London Dead Pubs have rallied to combat their sticky-carpeted corner– and bring the ‘old-man pub’ a brand-new clientele

The Calthorpe Arms on Gray’s Inn Road is a rather irregular central London bar. With patterned red rugs, brass fittings, leather bar stools, a swimming pool table and Christmas tinsel still hanging in very early February, it really feels significantly a “regional”, although on a Thursday night it’s active with the post-work crowd.It’s the 5th time Niall Walsh, who works nearby and runs the Proper Boozers Instagram account, has seen in recent months. “It’s simply off the beaten track, yet very easy to get to,” Walsh states over a pint of Harvey’s. “You can get an actual, genuine bar experience.”
