The “little items of Sunderland” produced by the city’s glassmaking manufacturing facility for greater than a century can be mapped back to an even older tale that began in the seventh century, when English glassmaking started at a monastery next to the River Wear, run by abbott and later saint Benedict Biscop.In 2007, the Pyrex manufacturing facility that opened more than 100 years previously and made glass that found its method into numerous homes folded, with manufacturing relocated to France.
