It isn’t Christmas if I have not covered up cozy and tottered around in circles. I can ration my life in London’s ice rinks. Broadgate Circus in the very early 00s, because it was least expensive and I was skint. A number of seasons of Skate at Somerset House with my ex, because it was our “romantic” Christmas custom (in fact, he disliked skating). This year, I’ll be mixing old and new: Hampton Court Palace, where individuals have been skating since the 1800s, and the inaugural Skate Leicester Square. Years back, a regrettable ex-boyfriend acquired me a merman Christmas tree ornament so unusual that it short-circuited my mind, letting loose something primitive within me. Ever since, I have scoured outlet store, present shops and the darkest reaches of the net for more mermaid knickknacks, like some sort of gay Gollum. I currently have more than a hundred, consisting of a flautist mermaid, numerous Santa Claus mermen and (my favourite) a merperson that is in some way additionally a ballerina and a pig.
