First Indigenous Australian to serve as federal minister says ‘to politicise it just adds to the division’

The first Indigenous Australian to serve as a federal minister has issued a blunt rebuke to politicians raising concerns about welcome to country ceremonies in the final week of the election campaign, telling them to “stay out of it”.

Ken Wyatt, a former Liberal minister and the first Indigenous minister for Indigenous Australians, said he was disappointed by some of the commentary on the issue but did not name specific politicians.
