Istanbul’s previous mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has gone on test in Turkey on charges of corruption, in a landmark instance extensively criticised by legal rights teams. Imamoglu was detained virtually one year back, when the resistance CHP celebration called him as their presidential prospect. Doubters state the test is an attempt to ambush Imamoglu’s opportunities of defeating Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the ballot box.
