‘It would be an earthquake for France’: is Marseille about to enact the far-right?

A National Rally success in France’s 2nd city in community political elections that begin on Sunday would be hailed by the event as an action towards taking the presidency next year

Nathalie, a market trader in her 40s, had woken early to prepare a frying pan of paella rice. She was spooning it into bathtubs at a market in southerly Marseille recently when a crowd of far-right canvassers approached, assuring cleaner and safer roads if she voted for them in the local elections.

” Our cash tin was swiped right here at Christmas time,” Nathalie stated. “I’ve had actually a bag swiped as well. It has a tendency to happen at the end of the day, around 7pm. I stress for the senior grandmothers. I had a necklace scammed me in the city centre once.”
