In Gaza, a mass wedding of 54 couples brings hope amid destruction

On Tuesday, 54 coupleswalked hand in hand, the brides dressed in traditional Palestinian gowns of white and red embroidery, accented with crimson ribbons, while the grooms walked alongside them in black suits and ties.

Yet the surrounding scene told another story: dilapidated buildings, piles of concrete and rubble bearing the marks of two years of conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The were united in marriage during a mass wedding ceremony in Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza — a defiant celebration of life amid the devastation of war.
