EU regulations prohibiting terms such as ‘bacon’ for vegetable products are problematic, btw cow muscle = steak
Recently, European policymakers chose that plant-based foods should no longer be marketed with terms such as “hen”, “bacon” or “steak”. The concern seems to be that shoppers may accidentally get vegetable bacon believing it originated from an actual pig. The modification applies to the UK also, as a result of our profession agreement with Europe.After significant pushback from organisations including the one I work with, the Vegetarian Society, and many food brand names, words such as” hamburger”, “nuggets” and “sausage”– as in, vegan sausage rolls– are still allowed, offered the packaging makes clear they are plant-based.
