‘I wish to earn my red stripes’: Cooper Hoffman on ambition, anxiety, and following in his daddy’s steps

He was never indicated to be a star– skeptical of contrasts with his late dad Philip Seymour Hoffman. Currently a rising celebrity, he talks about maturing, embracing pain and building his very own course

When Cooper Hoffman remained in his teens, he didn’t have any grand prepare for the future, though there was something he knew without a doubt: he did not want to be a star. Why? “I didn’t want to do it because my dad did it so well, and it felt like I would certainly be facing him. It would feel like I was naturally entering something competitive.”

Given Hoffman’s daddy is Philip Seymour Hoffman, Oscar-winning star of Boogie Nights, Almost Famous, The Master and Capote, you can see why he would feel by doing this. However after that Paul Thomas Anderson, the Boogie Nights director who is a friend of the household, and whose kids Cooper played with when he was growing up, asked him if he would certainly review for a component. It was the lead in the 2021 movie Licorice Pizza, about an adolescent child smitten with a female in her mid-20s. It would certainly not simply be his first starring role, however his very first role in anything. Hoffman ended up taking the task and was chosen for a Golden Globe for his initiatives. In the years considering that, he says, he’s come to understand he’s not in competition with his dad in any way. “I’m just doing the exact same thing he did, but in my very own way.”
