Women Labour MPs have required that Keir Starmer select a senior woman as his de facto replacement to oversee a “complete culture modification” in Downing Street after a collection of scandals that they claim have exposed a No 10 “children’ club”.
Harriet Harman, among the party’s most senior numbers, urged Starmer to restore the role of first secretary of state on Wednesday, a post inhabited by Peter Mandelson under Gordon Brown.
