It stars Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor as two men that fall in love in the darkness of World War I. The film premiered in competitors at Cannes to lukewarm testimonials, yet Emma suggests its peaceful, quelched portrayal of a gay connection formed by its era is exactly what provides it psychological pressure.
