Doncic is questionable for Thunder rematch, before return to Dallas

The Los Angeles Lakers listed Luka Doncic as questionable with a right groin strain for a meeting with the Oklahoma City Thunder in Paycom Center on Tuesday.

The second straight game in Oklahoma City, following a triumph on NBA Sundays, launches the final back-to-back for the Lakers on the schedule of the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season. The second half is an away fixture opposite the Dallas Mavericks and thus the first opportunity for Doncic to play in American Airlines Center as a member of the visitors.

Being listed as questionable for the Thunder game suggests a plan for the native of Ljubljana to suit up for the Lakers in Dallas on Wednesday. Considering widespread reactions to the blockbuster trade sending him to Los Angeles in early February, loud and extensive support is expected from the Mavs fans.

In addition to Doncic, Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle effusion), Bronny James (illness), LeBron James (left groin strain), Austin Reaves (right ankle sprain), and Gabe Vincent (left knee effusion) are also questionable to play against the Thunder. German Maxi Kleber (right foot surgery) will remain sidelined, and Rui Hachimura (left patellar tendinopathy) is out as well.

A complicated situation for head coach JJ Redick amid a battle for the best possible in the final standings of the Western Conference. At 48-30, the Lakers are on the verge of clinching a berth in the 2025 Playoffs presented by Google and securing the third seed on the West bracket. After the back-to-back, they will wrap up the regular-season schedule by hosting the Houston Rockets in crypto.com Arena on Friday and visiting the Portland Trail Blazers in Moda Center on Sunday.
